On meeting Michael, Rory decides that they must change their lives and so concocts a plan to beat the system. Escaping Carrigmore Home for the Disabled, the duo hire Siobhan to take care of their every need.1

When the kinetic Rory moves into his room in the Carrigmore Residential Home for the Disabled, his effect on the home is immediate. Most telling is his friendship with Michael, a young man with cerebral palsy and nearly unintelligible speech.2

SARATOV - Michael is a twenty-four-year-old who has cerebral palsy and long-term resident of the Carrigmore Residential Home for the Disabled, run by the formidable Eileen. His life is transformed when the maverick Rory O’Shea moves in. Michael is stunned to discover that fast talking Rory, who can move only his right hand, can understand his almost unintelligible speech.3

When Michael discovers that Rory can understand his almost unintelligible speech, the two quickly become friends. Rory wastes no time in trying to effect their escape from the Home and eventually they move into a shared flat, employing the services of a local girl, Siobhan (Romola Garai) as their care assistant.4

That said, why, but why, do they always take people without disabilities to play the role of people with disabilities? Not to take anything away from his role, he did a pretty decent job.5

In Dublin, the crippled rebel Rory O’Shea moves to the Carrigmore Residential Home for the Disabled, affecting the lives of the residents. Rory is able to understand the unintelligible speech of Michael Connolly, who was left in the shelter by his prominent father many years ago due to his cerebral palsy, and they become close friends.6
